Greetings all,

I arrived in the States late last Wednesday from almost 5 weeks abroad in Vietnam. I’ve spent the last week getting my ducks in a row and recovering from jet lag but, more importantly, I must highlight what an incredible privilege it was to have the chance not only to visit but also to collaborate with some outstanding musicians and new friends. I sincerely hope that it is not my only opportunity – already looking forward to the next! I cannot express enough gratitude to everyone who had a hand in organizing shows, lending gear, time and energy, sharing studio and rehearsal spaces or just simply making us feel welcome and showing us around. I am already planning to return in my mind…below are a handful of shots from performances during the trip:

Generally speaking, there looks to be a busy year ahead…several recording sessions are booked, tours are being planned and/or confirmed and there are many new releases in the queue, featuring collaborations with the likes of Muyassar Kurdi & Daniel Carter, Dave Rempis, Darin Gray, Tashi Dorji, Thom Nguyen, Eddie Flowers, Eric Weddle & Will Staler, Thee Open Sex, Ohmme, Golden Braid and more…

Interview w/ Tashi Dorji & I at The Quietus

Tashi and I had a great time recently talking with Elizabeth Newton for a feature over at The Quietus:

“I’ve been running from purist sentiments my whole life, so I don’t think I need any more of that. I’m going to reject dogma every single time. There’s no place for it.”

Additionally, here’s a Polish review from Piotr Lewandowski of our November 4th, 2016 hit at Elastic in Chicago (via Google Translate):

The joint report from two nights at Chicago’s Elastic Arts. Tashi Dorji is one of my favorite guitarists of the last few years, referring to Derek Bailey, rather than the American tradition, who finds a great and acoustic and electric format. On the solo albums of his improvisations which predominantly take the form of compact, several minutes eruption. At a concert on Friday, November 4, in a duo with drummer Tyler Damon I Dorji I played but a continuous, evolving improvisation. It was one of the best guitar-percussion concerts I’ve seen in recent years. Stoking energy (I not heard before Damon, but it really explosive drummer), impressive sounds and tones, fascinating in the aisles of avantrockowych spasms in almost meditative silence and a mosaic of small sounds. After the concert, Tashi said that every concert you have to play as if it was the last and the fact that it looked like – absolute determination and creativity. Brilliant performance.”

Dziękuję Ci, Piotr! Here’s a link to the original Polish language review : http://popupmusic.pl/no/48/galerie/813/tashi-dorji–tyler-damon%2C-amirtha-kidambis-elder-ones

Home from tour, a video, more press & end-of-year dates…

Southwest Diner, St. Louis, MO. Photo by Jeremy Kannapell.

Greetings everyone,

Tashi Dorji and I just wrapped up our final tour dates of the year in support of Both Will Escape; thank you to everyone who came out to see us perform last week; love and gratitude especially to those who offered their time and energy to make the shows happen, shared a meal, a place to sleep, or showed us around town…you know who you are – much appreciated! Already planning some 2017 hits for the Spring. More recording is on the horizon…

Deathwave TV was at our Bloomington performance at Indiana University’s Grunwald Gallery this past week and captured the majority of our set. Check it out here:

Deathwave TV has been in the works for quite some time now and they’ve also captured three of my solo sets (in addition to a wealth of other musical performances in Bloomington) if you feel inclined to check ’em out:

Since my last post we got a bit more press as well, most notably a nice feature from our man in Chicago, Bill Meyer, in the Chicago Reader:

http://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/2016/11/02/tashi-dorji-and-tyler-damon-play-chicago-behind-the-years-most-exciting-improvised-album

Sincerely flattering…thanks again, Bill. We also received our first Japanese review from Tokyo-based record shop Reconquista, presented here in English via Google translator:

“Pretty looking good! After receiving an influence on flamenco and classic, Derek Bailey and John Zorn, went to deepen the encounter own music sense to the music of Albert Ayler Bhutanese guitarist, and Tashi Dorji, duo works by percussion player Tyler Damon! Jazz and improvisation, noise, folk music, wonderfully thrilling performance that was tangled elements of minimal music, let me listen to the vertical of improvisation with a distinctive music and tone each other! Awakening common voice and edgy, such as going to cut through the space, wonderfully sound that fraught with elation, such as invites to the trance state, it will be drawn at once to the performance! In the course of rush into chaos, such as going to born the mystique, wild and intellectual performances are stunning masterpiece! With download coupon! recommendation!”

Thank you Reconquista! Japanese friends, purchase the LP from Reconquista here:

Our good friend (and guitar slinger extraordinaire) Sarah Louise also included our LP Both Will Escape in her “Listed” feature via the always-excellent Dusted Magazine:
